PCWIN (Pima County Wireless Integrated Network)
International Towers (ITI) won a contract to install the infrastructure associated with the Pima County Wireless Integrated Network (PCWIN) program. The scope included shelter modification, new shelter installations, new tower installations and tower modifications. Supply and installation of the power plants, commercial power systems, generator supply and installation and shelter racks and safety equipment were also part of the scope completed by ITI during this program. Once again, the depth and variety of the talent within ITI allowed all work to be performed by in-house crews, contributing to the high level of efficiency and quality difficult to achieve using subcontractors.
One site in particular presented a special set of challenges. On a protected Native American site located on Tumamoc Mountain in Tucson, AZ, an existing transmitter building was remodeled, upgraded service installed, HVAC capacity increased and a complete 48v DC power plant installed. This allowed three towers to be removed in exchange for one multiuse tower installed by ITI. All existing broadcasting antennas and backhaul systems were migrated to the new tower by ITI with minimal negative impact to the tenants.

All site work was performed under the supervision of Tohono O'odham Nation representatives and conformed to guidelines set forth by the University of Arizona Cultural Preservation Department.
The successful completion of this project was applauded by all involved as an example of what can be accomplished when the contractor, client and all other stakeholders work together with a common purpose.
